Fear Has Muddled The River

I wrote this piece a couple of months back. I know it’s been a while but I believe it’s never too late to put your words out there. #JusticeForBabyRiver #EndStateFascism #PasismoIbagsak #OustDuterteNow #FreePoliticalPrisoners

Let me tell you why I’m afraid.

Today I saw one of the gravest miscarriages of injustice — the government’s volition to discard everything that it stands for in order to instill fear in the hearts of many. The outright lust and hunger for power these people have within their stomachs are clearly insatiable and everyone is well aware of that. For years they continue to quench their thirst with the blood of the innocent, sparing no citizen and keeping everyone on edge.

Today I saw how they treated the youth. An iron fist wrapped tightly around the throat of our children, leaving them gasping for freedom the way they gasp for air. A blacked out piece of cloth tied around the eyes of our youth, preventing them from seeing the real truth and state of our dying nation. A pair of shackles hindering them from taking action well before they can even walk. A strip of tape over their mouths stopping them from talking even though they are yet to say their first words.

Today I saw how they treated our mothers. The people who selflessly protect others while they stand unguarded with no weapon or armor. Violently stripping them away from their children and life sources with no explanation, leaving them broken and defeated.

Today I saw how the government wanted to be perceived. A body of soulless and heartless people who are the farthest thing from humans. Nothing but a projection of the citizens’ worst qualities and greatest fears. They wish not to lead for others, but for power and strength for themselves.

Today I saw the lengths they are willing to take. Today I saw a glimpse of the possible future of our motherland. Today I saw our river of hope dry out.

Now you tell me, why shouldn’t I be afraid?
